6:30 PM  –  8:00 PM

Join us as we welcome Dr. Stephen A. Goldman, to present ”The Unfinished Work” and Gettysburg Veteran Reunions: Reconciliation, Memory, and Resisting the Lost Cause.

Having drawn upon longtime research on Northern soldiers and work with modern-day combat personnel in his groundbreaking new book, psychiatrist Dr. Stephen A. Goldman will discuss One More War to Fight: Union Veterans’ Battle for Equality through Reconstruction, Jim Crow, and the Lost Cause. Analyzing talks delivered at Northern soldiers’ Gettysburg reunions in the 1880s and other new material, Dr. Goldman presents compelling evidence to challenge a popular historical standpoint that white Union veterans had a major role in acceptance of a Lost Cause interpretation to the Civil War and reconciliation, and the valorous service of African American servicemen increasingly being forgotten.

Stephen A. Goldman, M.D., a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, has decades of experience in patient care, academia, public health, and medical product safety. The only physician to serve on the Abraham Lincoln Institute Board of Directors, he has also deeply studied the Civil War, Reconstruction, race, and the life-changing impact of war itself. His thought-provoking findings having been welcomed on television, radio, podcasts, and in other venues for many years.
